Ya’aburnee Arabic – Both morbid and beautiful at once, this incantatory word means “You bury me,” a declaration of one’s hope that they’ll die before another person because of how difficult it would be to live without them.

Tinker, Tailor, Soldier, Spy
I went to Tinker, Tailor, Soldier, Spy last night and largely had no idea what was going on.
It’s a very different film for this era, I think. Slow and talky, but not in the ways I usually enjoy.
Yet, I didn’t hate the film. I felt like I missed three prequels that would’ve helped me understand it.
But it’s probably just me.
Also, I will always admire Gary...

Pets
I’ve been thinking for awhile about buying a bird. I really like the idea of having a little pet. A dog would be preferable, but I’m not close to the kind of life that would support that yet.
I’ll probably get a cockatiel, on the advice of a bird-owning friend. Mel and I went to a pet store the other day just to look and there was a lovely bird there (can’t remember the...

…it’s been awhile, eh? Sorry.
I’m moving to a one-bedroom suite, so that’s very exciting.
Trying to pursue the photography thing. I need pretty much all the equipment, so it’s gonna be a long slog.
That’s about it.

Tree of Life (2011)
Tree of Life, written and directed by Terrance Malick, is a stunningly beautiful and moving film. If it had been edited with more discipline, it could have been shattering.
The film tells the story of a small southern family who suffers the loss of one of a trio of brothers. Though it jumps a bit in the timeline, it’s no less linear than most mainstream movies. One of the strengths of the film,...
